Solar Kit Troubleshooting

Pump not running despite sunlightClick to expand
  • Check battery voltage — must be above minimum threshold for controller to activate
  • Inspect MC4 connectors for corrosion or loose connections
  • Verify charge controller display shows panel input voltage
  • Test with direct battery connection to isolate controller vs motor issue
Pump runs but output is reducedClick to expand
  • Check for air leaks in drop pipe or cylinder check valve
  • Inspect motor brushes — brush wear reduces output over time
  • Verify water level hasn't dropped below pump intake depth
  • Check for partial blockage in discharge line
Batteries not chargingClick to expand
  • Verify panels are clean and unshaded
  • Check charge controller input terminals for proper connection
  • Test panel open-circuit voltage with multimeter (should be ~45V per 370W panel)
  • Inspect wiring for damaged insulation
Timer not activating pumpClick to expand
  • Verify timer is programmed (ON/OFF schedule set)
  • Check timer output voltage is reaching motor leads
  • Confirm battery bank is sufficiently charged for motor start

Ready to Upgrade? Here's Your Path.

When you're ready to move to the new solar submersible system, Simple Pump offers a retrofit path using our new Simple Pump Inline Dual-Pump Valve Assembly. The Inline Dual-Pump Valve Assembly connects a Workhorse Narrow Series solar submersible pump to your existing Simple Pump cylinder and drop pipe — no need to replace your pump head or rods.

What the upgrade involves:

  1. Remove existing LBLD motor assembly and lever arm
  2. Thread the Simple Pump Inline Dual-Pump Valve Assembly onto the Workhorse pump suction port (NPT connection)
  3. Install spring check valve above the valve assembly
  4. Reinstall existing Simple Pump cylinder, drop pipe, and pump head
  5. Run solar cable alongside drop pipe to surface
  6. Install Workhorse PSC100 solar controller and solar panels at surface
